Banking While Black | Ep 132

Welcome back to another episode of Decoding 40. It’s spring again and L.O. is back in the gym. Is the fight to be fit at 49 much different than 29? Rick encounters a massive military caravan while driving in Virginia. Is this a sign that trouble is on the way? Vin is having a quiet week and spent some time binge-watching programming on Netflix. What did he think of Inventing Anna?

Next, we discuss the latest trend in American racism–banking while Black. Several stories of Black people going to their local bank to execute their financial transactions result in them being treated poorly by the banking staff. Recently, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler became the latest victim as he was accused of attempting to rob the bank and had to deal with the local police. Is there anything we can do without police interaction? You’ll hear this and much more on the latest episode of Decoding40.

Trigga Gots No Heart | Ep 129

Welcome back to another episode of Decoding 40. This week, Alaric is on the road again for another production project and is getting his fill of shrimp po’boy sandwiches with a side of fried pickles. Vin is still building his voiceover career while supplementing his income with ride-sharing adventures. L.O. meets with some bright minds of the future and gives his review on the series Them.

The guys talk about the decision of the New York governor and mayor to take a zero-tolerance policy on the vagrancy and homelessness that’s overrun the MTA due to the rash of violent incidents that have affected the system. The conversation also touches on reports that Mayor Adams’ new budget will see an increase in the NYPD budget while social services and education budgets will be dramatically slashed.

Next, in This Week in Racism, the guys talk about the recent viral video of two police officers violently breaking up a fight in a New Jersey mall. The officers quickly moved to restrain a Black teenager, while taking a strikingly passive approach to the other teenager who apparently appeared white to them. And, lastly, the guys talk about a recent story out of Salt Lake City, Utah where an apparent shootout occurred between the police and … a four year old?

Lastly, we discuss Mayor Eric Adams rehashing an old cultural war strategy that pits hip hop as the cause for societal ill rather than addressing the social issues that are plaguing American youth.
