Trial & Error | Episode 118

Welcome back to another episode of Decoding 40. Vin learns that having one more drink before you leave Thanksgiving dinner is a recipe for waking up in your drawers the next day.  After a spotless no road rage record, L finds himself in a verbal altercation with an MTA bus driver.   Rick is down in South Beach setting up for The Fearless Artist gallery at Art Basel. Mack has a call from hell with a software salesperson and his daughter has a special milestone this week.

Next, we discuss the Kyle Rittenhouse trial and the murder trial of Ahmaud Arbery. These two cases happening simultaneously gripped the nation and the verdicts helped to further polarize this nation.  While justice was definitely served in the murder trial in Brunswick Georgia, the Rittenhouse case may have emboldened white supremacy and vigilantism in America.

After that, it’s movie review time. This week we reviewed the Netflix feature, The Harder They Fall.  WARNING: Vin aka the Spoiler drops a helluva lot of plot in this episode, so if you haven’t seen the movie you should skip this segment until you have watched it.

Lastly, we pay our respects to Virgil Abloh.  He was a true visionary with his unapologetic stance of bringing marginalized points of view in design to the forefront. He, unfortunately, lost his battle with cancer earlier this week and he will be truly missed the world over.  Rest in Power Virgil.

Lyrics to Go [f/ Danny Castro & Ant Marshall] | Episode 117

Welcome back to another episode of Decoding 40. Vin is about to take the world by storm with his latest product in his Coquito empire–Coquito ice cream.  L.O runs into two crackheads smoking at his subway stop and poses a question to the crew on when to say something when you see something. Mack and his family are settling into their new home and his daughter is crawling everywhere which means it’s time to babyproof EVERYTHING. Rick is back on the road and wonders why his hotel room temperature is set to the deep freeze.

This week we are honored to talk with the creators of the Lyricist Lounge, Danny Castro and Anthony Marshall.  It’s been 30 years since it all started in a studio apartment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The innovators share stories on how they met and went on to create one of the dopest hip-hop institutions in the world. We also talk about the future of the Lyricist Lounge and how they plan to expand the brand internationally and into the digital age with NFTs and bitcoin currency.  This dynamic duo stands poised to maintain an indelible influence on Hip Hop for a long time.

Ratchet Air | Episode 115

Welcome back to another episode of Decoding 40. We start this week’s Check-In with L.O. and his first “Ken” encounter of 2021 at Whole Foods. Vin is celebrating his 48th birthday and continues his journey in comedy.  Alaric finds himself at a Halloween costume party with no costume, but apparently makes a new best friend that offers him Booker’s whiskey.  Mack is fitting into parenthood quite nicely as he talks about his time at the Bronx Zoo with his wife and daughter for the annual Halloween party and parade.

Next, we discuss the downfall of airline travel. Trips by plane used to be a special event where people would get dressed up nicely to enjoy the flight.  However, with the advent of cheap airline ticket prices, flying has turned into a glorified bus ride in the skies.  Finally, we celebrate and take our hats off to the latest Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class including Jay-Z, LL Cool J and legend Tina Turner, to name a few. You’ll hear this and so much more on the latest episode of Decoding40.

Mack has been in a bit of a rut, but after meeting with some of his like-minded business friends he realizes he needs to raise his personal bar to achieve new heights.  Vin is having a quiet week, dealing with some health concerns but overall things are looking up

Next, we discuss whether or not the Biden Administration, Kamala Harris, and the rest of the Democrats are missing in action?  During the election, many Democrats, including Biden and Harris courted the BIPOC community with promises of addressing important issues in the Black community especially. Lastly, the guys tackle another one of L.O. famous letters and offer some advice for a woman who finds herself struggling with a sexless marriage. Should she stay married and faithful or step out and get her groove on?
