We’re back! And, school is fully back in session after a year and a half of distance learning and it’s safe to say the crew is very happy.  Alaric’s son gets suited and booted up for his day of Pre-k.  He and his wife hire a new babysitter to help manage the day-to-day operations at home. Vin’s youngest starts High School and he’s super proud of her.  Life has its ups and downs but he’s learning how to navigate in this new phase of life.  Like all of us, L.O. is happy that his sons are back in school and is spending the extra time binging on some of his favorite TV programs.  Mack’s business is booming but with that comes lawyers, lawyers, and more lawyers.  More money, more problems. 

Next, the crew has a heartfelt conversation on the topic of fatherhood.  They share their experiences of being dads and how they navigate these uncharted waters without having some lessons from their own fathers.  

Lastly, we ended with another installment of L.Dots letters and this one comes from a married woman whose husband sneaks into her phone for her content. She thinks he’s stealing. Who’s right? The fellas weigh in.

Vin has a new neighbor that doesn’t believe in curbing their dog. Or, is it actually the dog that doesn’t believe in curbing their human? Alaric shares a story of an accident in his neighborhood and he thinks the NYPD has given up. Mack shares a similar story with a twist, where he gets into a high-speed chase as a self-deputized crimefighter. Next, we discuss the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and where we were on that fateful day. This attack changed the American experience as we knew it forever. We also introduce a new segment: Negroes at the Theatre. Our first review is of the sci-fi movie, Tomorrow War. Is Hollywood actively pushing a subtle white supremacist agenda?

Lastly, we pay our respects to the iconic film and television actor, Michael K Williams, who recently died at the age of 54 in his New York apartment. His portrayals in the Wire, Boardwalk Empire, and Lovecraft Country were nothing less than stellar and cemented his legacy in the arts. He will be truly missed.

After a nice summer vacation break, Decoding40 is back. The Check-In starts off with an uneventful week for Mack. Rick starts this week’s check-in by wishing his wife a happy birthday!  Vin is at work and its business as usual.  L.O. drops his kids off for sleepaway camp, but nothing is ever easy when he takes an Uber.  Mack spends time with his brothers and surprises his wife with a brand new appliance. 

This week we take time to remember the legendary hip hop pioneer, Biz Markie, who succumbed to his health issues on July 16, 2021.  Biz represented our culture to the fullest and was an intrical part of our teenage years. We all grew up on his music and this one along with so many of the artists we’ve lost, particularly in the last month, hit the crew hard.  #RIPBiz. 

We also talk about thoughts of infidelity in a marriage. What happens when your wife is thinking about cheating, but she doesn’t know how to tell you? What should she do? The guys have some surprising thoughts.

Leon’s son start summer camp which can only mean one thing in the Cauthen household.  Que up the slow music and light some candles.  Vin has a grateful week off and takes a trip to the range with Rick.  As the world open back up more and more Rick finds himself back to work.  His most recent job trip finds him in the middle of Virginia where thankfully everyone was on their best behavior.  Lastly Mack shares his tale of his flooded parking garage.  Recently NYC was hit with some serious flash flooding and unfortunately Mack’s car was a victim.   Looks like a new car is in his future.

Leon has a run-in with a junior Karen while at his Godsons memorial. Apparently, there’s no chill when it comes to a know-it-all Nancy. Rick celebrated his 8th wedding anniversary with a much-needed staycation at the Standard Hotel in the city. Nothing like two days of no kids and doing absolutely NOTHING! Mack finishes off the check-in acknowledging his baby girl’s six-month milestone, which means it’s time for his wife to head back to the office. Luckily, he’ll have the help of his in-laws with childcare.

Next, we discuss Clarence Thomas and his not-so-conservative viewpoint of this country’s outdated marijuana prohibition laws. This segues into a discussion on the conservative views of the Supreme Court and how they are influenced by the political climate. Lastly, we finish up the show with a controversial conversation on stop and frisk policy and how the front runner in the NYC mayoral race favors the controversial and unconstitutional policy.
