Welcome back to another episode of Decoding 40! The podcast is now picking up streams in Toledo, Ohio. Thanks to everyone in the Glass City who is taking the time to listen to the show and share in the love.
This week the guys discuss another tragic case of police brutality. This time in Memphis, TN which resulted in the death of Tyre Nichols. Listen in as the guys try to make sense of this senseless death of another Black man at the hands of law enforcement in America.
Next, we kick off Black History Month and celebrate Black excellence by having a conversation with famed Grammy award jazz trumpeter Keyon Harrold. We discuss his early family life and growing up in Ferguson, Missouri. He talks about growing up with law enforcement officers in his family and the impact that had on his community while also dealing with aggressive policing in Ferguson and the surrounding communities. We also talk about the very public news story from December 2020 that involved his son who was falsely accused of stealing a woman’s cell phone in a downtown New York City hotel.
