Mask On Mask Off | Episode 44

It’s 10am on a Monday in the studio and the guys are breaking open a bottle of some brown sauce. The guys are on the check in talking about drinking in moderation, hearing issues, noise-cancelling headphones, memory foam mattresses, CPAP machines and Vin’s battle with sleep apnea.

The crew starts the show discussing the tragic news of the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Kobe Bryant, his daughter GiGi, the pilot and all of the other passengers. Our hearts go out to all of the families, friends and fans affected by this accident as we all still try to reconcile our emotions regarding this loss.

We also talk about some of the scariest situations we’ve found ourselves in while driving on the road. Do you take naps on the side of the road? Or, at rest stops?

This Week’s Libation is Uncle Nearest 1836 and the crew is excited to finally sample this historic whiskey.

So what are you giving up for the New Year?  The crew runs down some of the priorities they’ve put forward in order to live more abundant and fearless lives in 2020 and beyond.

When was the first time you fell in love with Hip Hop?  From Rappers Delight to Eric B for President, we all can remember the first time Hip Hop touched are spirits. This brings us to a heated discussion on whether or not we should separate the art from the artist.  Does a person’s body of work outweigh the trauma they may inflict on others in their personal life? Heeeeyyyy Massa!!!! | Episode 41

The guys continue to catch up on what they’ve been up to bringing in the new year.  Predictably, the guys have been catching up on movies and shows that they normally wouldn’t have time to watch. We mention two Netflix projects, Eddie Murphy’s My Name Is Dolemite Kevin Hart’s Don’t Fuck This Up.

We start the show discussing if we have evolved into a culture of oversensitive people? Where are the The Jetsons? And, why haven’t we achieved that level of technology in 2020? We then start to discuss Tesla’s newly designed Cybertruck and some of the technological advances that we have been able to witness.

Then the great debate of the show has us discussing the cost of integrity.  How much would it take for you to sell out to star in a Popeye’s chicken sandwich commercial?

We also managed to possibly cross the line on Lizzo, Stevie Wonder, Kenan Thompson or maybe Keenan Ivory Wayans, Quavo, Eddie Griffin, Katt Williams and heaven help us, even our enslaved ancestors.

This Week’s Libation is El Tesoro Tequila Resposado and has an amazing effect on the crew.

Our Magnum Opus [feat. Magnum P.I.'s Stephen Hill] | Episode 40

Welcome back to our eponymous 40th episode.

We had to go big for this episode. And, we mean CBS big! We welcomed actor Stephen Hill to the studio to discuss his brilliant career and some of his coolest moments in television and film. Hill’s television credits include “Law & Order: SVU,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “Political Animals,”, ”BLUE BLOODS, “Boardwalk Empire”, “Lewis & Clark” and “Luke Cage.” His most recent work includes Steve McQueen’s feature film “Widows,” the play “Manhood” at the National Black Theater, and the Netflix series “Maniac.” Hill’s “Magnum P.I.” character, a military veteran who flies helicopters, shares a distinguished trait with his father, who was a Vietnam veteran chopper mechanic.

In This Week in Racism, we consider Stephen’s inability to get the coveted blue check of Instagram on his account as a possible signal of racist intent.

This Week’s Libation is Four Roses Whiskey and we give our review, but our reviews get upstaged by Stephen’s Pappy Van Winkle story.

Pacquiao Out!

Mack decided to introduce the crew to healthy snacks that can be best described as flavored wood.  Alaric is getting ready to head to Miami and breaks down Art Basel, a wonderful art fair that transforms Miami into one big work of art.

We Are All Kunta Kinte, No Kaep! | Episode 37

The crew opens up with a few movie reviews for your consideration that include Martin Scorcese’s latest acclaimed film, The Irishman now playing on Netflix.  Mack also gives his quick take on the romantic drama, Queen and Slim, and his experience at a theater in the Hamptons. L.O. gives light on a new concept of anger that is pervasive among New Yorkers, especially, and many of our listeners are probably included in his sample pool for continued study.

We discuss the use of pronouns based on one’s preference when not easily perceptible based on physical appearance. Next, we ask the question: how old is too old to have children? We then turn to politics, as Rick gives his hot take on Michael Bloomberg running for president and his late and clumsy apology concerning “Stop and Frisk”.  Having entered into the presidential race does Bloomberg have a chance or is he just another distraction.

This Week’s Libation is Sazarac Rye Whiskey.  It’s a smooth full-body flavored whiskey that doesn’t have the normal Rye bitter after taste.

We wrap up the show discussing Colin Kaepernick and the public workout he put on a few weeks ago.  We talk about the social and media impact that Colin’s display could have with all of the visuals that were at play.
