We Admit It | Ep 171

Welcome back to another episode of Decoding 40! The podcast is now picking up streams in Nebraska! Thanks to everyone in the Cornhusker State who is taking the time to listen to the show and share in the love.

This week, Rick returns home from Miami with a little something extra—Covid 19. And, positive test aside, Rick has been symptom-free and has been blessed with a case of Diet Covid. Vin and his family head over to the Bronx to celebrate Leon’s youngest’s 10th birthday. It was a great time that included food, fun, drinks, and games. Leon and his wife played gracious hosts at their son’s birthday event. He found himself in an almost road rage incident when he was duped by the “slow to move out of the spot” guy. We hate that guy!

Next, we discuss the release of Britney Griner and all the backlash from people who felt Paul Whelan would have made for a better swap. Did that have anything to do with America being racist? Lastly, we couldn’t let the 2-hour release of the R. Kelly album I Admit It go by without a review and official breakdown.

It was a beautiful ceremony with good food, friends, and family. Alaric is still down in South Beach finishing up at Art Basel. The Fearless Artist pop-up gallery was a success with one of the highlights being NORE as the opening night keynote speaker.

You’ll also get to where our new segment “For the Love of Money” where we ask if you could wear MAGA and White Lives Matter gear for two years, but not tell anyone why you’re wearing it. Vin spends the Thanksgiving break at a potluck celebration hosted by Rick and his family. This time of the year is especially rough for some and Vin talks about his battle with depression.

Next, we discuss the controversy surrounding a recent Balenciaga ad that apparently included elements of BDSM and appeared to give a nod while paying homage to pedophilia and child pornography. In light of the backlash and outrage directed toward Kanye and Kyrie, the crew asks where are the calls for canceling this brand. And, oh yeah Jerry Jones gets some well-deserved heat for continually being on the wrong side of history when it comes to race relations in this country. Don’t think we forgot about you Jerral Wayne Jones!

Also, the guys also talk about Black Panther and Nas’ latest studio release, King’s Disease III, and a bunch of other cultural events lighting up the social sphere.

This week our guest, Welby Accely, a first-generation, New York-born, Haitian American, Welby was always to some extent on his own as he figured out a path toward prosperity. To make it, he would have to determine his own route to bigger and better things. There was never any real mentorship early on and his life, but when Welby would visit his godfather in Long Island he realize the stark difference in location and lifestyle compared to where he grew up. Seeing that his godfather became successful via the real estate market, Welby clung to the idea that real estate investing was worth his passion and devotion.

He finally divorces his barber in the last episode of “Mi Peluguero Secreto”. Rick takes the kids trick-or-treating in downtown Brooklyn where the festivities and candy were top-tier offerings. Next, the guys discuss parenting from the perspective of parents in a digital world versus the analog times of the 70s and 80s they grew up in. As the kids of moms and dads with more hands-off parenting, we found ourselves in situations lacking the advice we needed to make informed decisions. Today, we are still trying to find the right balance between raising kids with our wives. Are our children at a disadvantage? Or, are we giving them the best of both experiences?
