FTP, Respectfully | Ep 140

Welcome back to another episode of Decoding 40! And, thanks to Atlanta for having the greatest increase in streams over the last couple of weeks. This week, Alaric finds himself in the throes of a fierce game of Old Maid with his daughter, while balancing with work. Leon reviews his latest Apple TV addiction Severance. He also thinks he might have a touch of carpal tunnel syndrome to boot. Vin has a movie shoot on his block and takes on the old man role by complaining about the lack of parking spaces along with the general nuisance of the whole situation.

In This Week in Racism, we discuss the situation in Syracuse, NY, where an 8-year-old Black child was arrested and treated horribly by the police for allegedly stealing a bag of chips. It’s a heated discussion as the guys discuss the impropriety of the police and what could have prevented this citation. Lastly, we discuss student loans and what, if anything, the Democrats aren’t doing, to offer relief to borrowers saddled with this debt.

This and so much more on this latest episode of Decoding40.

Book of Dad, Part II | Episode 139

Welcome back to another episode of Decoding 40. Thanks to the planet of Brooklyn for coming in heavy with the downloads last week. Every once and a while the crew just has one of those Check-Ins that turns into a heart-to-heart amongst friends. This is one of those times. As men, it’s important to learn from one another and feel open enough to have these types of conversations. Fatherhood is a rewarding challenging responsibility and with Alaric, Leon, and Vincent all having children of various ages, it allows for several different perspectives. These conversations allow us to learn from each of our triumphs and mistakes, so we can become better men and fathers.

You’ll hear all of this and so much more on this episode of Decoding40.

Penitentiary Politricks [w/ Jaquial Durham] | Ep 137

Welcome back to another episode of Decoding 40! Shout out to Belgium for the support with the top downloads last week. This week, L.O. finds himself in Connecticut over the Easter weekend celebrating with his family and also gives props to his brother-in-law’s full-court balling. Alaric has the kids for the week and finds himself in a battle of wits with his son. Seems like the stubborn gene is strong in this young Jedi. Vin rounds off the check-in with his take on proper Easter attire. Fellas, if you’re going to wear a suit please please remove the tag from the sleeve!

This week we had the honor of having a very special guest Jaquial Durham the brainchild behind Public Culture Entertainment and the director of The Lee Riot & South Carolina Prison Culture Documentary. We sat down with this brilliant young man and discussed everything from the above-mentioned project to who his top 5 MCs of all time are. If this young man is the future then I think we might just have a chance.

Black Lady Courtroom | Ep 135

Welcome back to another episode of Decoding 40. This week Rick heads down to DC to hang out with the Fearless Artist crew as they celebrate a major milestone. Vin talks about the most recent trip to Lounge Studios and how Basel Hayden & Uncle Nearest brought the guys to the great abyss.  L.O. finishes the check-in with a cautionary tale of how a late-night moment on the lips can lead to a morning of irritable bowels and regret.

Next, the guys discuss the confirmation hearings of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. The avalanche of disrespect she received as the first Black woman nominee,  who, by all accounts, is one of the most qualified nominees in the history of the court, was disgusting.

Next, we check in on the bizarre story where a hip hop pioneer, Kidd Creole, of Grand Master Flash & the Furious 5 is facing murder charges in New York City. NOTE: This episode was recorded before the verdict of guilt was handed down on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. We pray that this miscarriage of justice is reversed expeditiously.

Finally, the guys give their thoughts on the possibility of Colin Kaepernick returning to the NFL and what impact it might have on the culture, race relations, and the League’s legal exposure.

Welcome back to another episode of Decoding 40. L.O. is back with another one of his TV show reviews and this time it’s all documentaries as he talks about the Secrets of Playboy, Jee-yuhs, and the Chippendale Murder series. Vin is three chapters away from finishing his audible book project and could he be on his way to becoming a hermit?  Rick is finally home after weeks on the road where he “enjoyed” a conversation at a post-wrap parking lot beer party with one of the Q’Anon acolytes.

Next, we discuss the infamous smack heard around the world at the 94th Academy Awards where live on tv for all the world to see, Will Smith slaps Chris Rock in defense of his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. The guys talk about their reactions and what they would do if put in a similar situation?

Vin spends some quality time with his wife and pushes ahead through his audible book assignments. L.O. had an unexpected, unfriendly, and unwarranted visit from the NYPD, but he wasn’t home. Unfortunately, his neighbors weren’t so lucky.

Next, we discuss Hampton University’s generous offer to Ukrainian students who wish to attend summer classes at the university will do so for free.
